Ben is a long time resident of Bloomington Normal. He has been involved in many capacities with the local branch of the NAACP including proudly serving as Chair of the Scholarship Committee, Treasurer of ACT-SO, and he currently serves as Treasurer of the Bloomington Normal NAACP. 

His other activities in the community include serving as a Commissioner on the Town of Normal Human Relations Commission, as a Board Member of the Family and Community Resource Center, and as Chair of the Mid Illini Credit Union Board of Directors.
