Committee Descriptions
ACT-SO
Recruit, stimulate, improve and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African American high school students. ACT-SO is an acronym for Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics.
Census
To coordinate and assist in providing information regarding the importance of every resident is counted in Mclean County population accurately to reflect our community needs. Every 10 years, a census is taken of all persons living in the United States as required by law. To coordinate and work with local Census Office/representatives and our community to help in the understanding of the importance of the Census and to assist in dissemination of information to help increase the response rate within our community.
Criminal Justice
Advocate for a better public safety system that reduces the reliance on prisons as means of solving social problems, advances effective law enforcement and removes barriers for voting and employment for formerly incarcerated people.
Education
Work to ensure all students have access to an equal and high-quality public education by promoting school resource equality, increasing teach quality, promoting parent engagement, and enhancing early childhood literacy initiatives.
Economic Financial Freedom
Work to help people have equal opportunity to achieve economic success, sustainability, and financial security.
Environmental and Climate Justice
Reduce harmful emissions, particularly greenhouse gases, advance energy efficiency and clean energy, strengthen community resilience and livability.
Freedom Fund
Work to advocate, improve, promote, and fight for equality & freedom for all. To help raise funds for the fight for freedom and help raise funds for scholarships for African American high school seniors. The committee chair chairs the Freedom Fund Banquet/Event and all officers serve on the Freedom Fund committee.
Health
Implement health education initiatives to combat the health disparities facing people of color.
Housing
Advocate access to affordable housing, combat housing discrimination and fight to eliminate restrictive housing practices in public and private housing and lending practices.
Labor and Industry
Advocate to improve the economic status of minority groups by working to eliminate discriminatory employment practices in industry and government, wage differentials based on race, unequal opportunity for training, promotion and unfair dismissals, encouraging greater participation in the trade union movement, working to end discriminatory practices in labor unions, securing the enactment of fair employment practices legislation and working for improved opportunities in vocational and apprenticeship training.
Legal Redress
Investigating all reported incidents submitted to the Branch, taking action when warranted
Membership
Develop membership outreach initiatives to expand the capacity of the branch. To help ensure and promote renewals and new memberships. The branch secretary serves a member of this committee and maintain the records and submission of memberships.
Political Action
Work to ensure voter empowerment by providing awareness, training, and programmatic support to ensure registration, education, administration, and election protection
Press and Publicity
Work to generate awareness o NAACP programs and activities in our local communities by utilizing press, media, list serves, newsletter, website and social media

Religious Affairs
Enlist the support of religious leaders to promote an educational program to give moral and ethical interpretation to the civil rights struggle
Resolutions
To determine if there are any major, nationwide issues that warrants a resolution (call to action). Resolutions are presented at the National Convention or approval at the State Level.
Scholarships
Make higher education opportunities available for graduating high school seniors.
Technology
Manage the website and Facebook page, enter and update information, resolve technological issues.
Veterans’ Affairs
Seek to establish a working relationship with local, State and National government agencies, assisting with the aid of members of the various Armed Services and Veterans and their families and help see that the programs are administered justly to members of the minority community.
WIN (Women in NAACP)
Seek to enhance the leadership role of women, serve as an advocacy vehicle for issues affecting women and children, and advocate for the positive development of children.
Inform youth of the problems affecting African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities, advance their economic, educational, social and political status and work to stimulate and develop intelligent, effective youth leaders.

All chairs are to submit a monthly report to the branch secretary and copy their advisor by the Friday before each 3rd Thursday, even if you have a no report. We have provided phone numbers and email addresses. Please note, if a person is on more than one committee or as an advisor, we list their full information once. Each chairperson makes up the Executive Committee that will normally meets as assigned. We realize that the committees are volunteered positions and we ask for each chairperson and committee member to be committed to serving and advise your committee chairperson or your advisor if you have any questions or concerns.
